Did Beyoncé Steal Dance Moves (Again)?
Accusations are swirling (simply swirling!) that the choreography for Beyoncé's instantly popular new "Countdown" video were copied from the work of Belgian contemporary choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. The sameness is rather striking!
As you can see from the above video, there are some shot-for-shot direct similarities between the videos. So, what is this, inspiration or plagiarism? Destiny's favorite child has been accused of this before, when the obvious comparison between the dancing in her huge "Single Ladies" video and the work of Bob Fosse were pointed out. She's also been accused of copying an Italian singer's work for a performance at the Billboard awards. Uh oh. Is a trend emerging?
Obviously dancers and choreographers borrow from and expand upon each others' work all the time, that's why the greats are called influential, but does this hit too close to the mark? Should we be glad that B is bringing these awesome moves to the masses or should she be giving credit where credit is due? Actually, probably both. Those things aren't mutually exclusive, after all.
But, y'know, judge for yourself.
