Online Teens Want to Know: Who Is Osama Bin Laden?
Here's a good way to make those of you who aren't very old feel extremely old: The kids these days — many of the same ones who love torture and will never be happy — took the occasion of Osama bin Laden's death to figure out who the hell he was in the first place. Was he important? Why is his death such a "thing"?
The Yahoo! search blog wrote yesterday that "teens ages 13-17 were seeking more information as they made up 66% of searches for 'who is osama bin laden?'" on Sunday. He was a big mean man from Over There!
Some of them were silly enough to solicit answers on the public forum Twitter. A few of these wretched tweets (via Sean Bonner) are shown above.
The fellow at the top, "groydis," appears to be — given his beard — one of the adults trying to learn about this vexing, insider news figure. And in response to some hecklers who've called him an idiot, he tweeted, "im so sorry i was living the last 10 years of my life, instead of being hung up on some towel head. GTFO." At least he's taken time to learn the slurs!
And that slur aside, he makes a good point.
