Dior Fires John Galliano After Anti-Semitic Tirade
[There was a video here]
Fashion house Dior suspended its famous head designer John Galliano late last week after reports surfaced he harangued a couple with anti-Jewish slurs in a Paris bar. Now that video of a similar incident has become public, he's been officially been fired.
Dior's CEO Sidney Toledano said in a statement, "I very firmly condemn what was said by John Galliano, which totally contradicts the values which have always been defended by Christian Dior."
Natalie Portman, who has an endorsement contract with Dior, released a statement on Monday night before Galliano's ouster condemning his remarks and saying she wouldn't work with him in any way. It's unclear whether or not it was a factor in his termination, but it sure couldn't have helped. Unlike any other, the fashion industry has been known to forgive and forget, but with this scandal hitting the media as Paris Fashion Week is about to go into full-swing—including a Dior presentation featuring Galliano's final collection—we'll have to wait and see how how bad the damage is.
Oh, and all former Project Runway contestants, there's now a job opening at Dior!
