Life Mirrors Back to the Future II With Insta-Laces: Shoes that Tie Themselves

Michael J. Fox had them and now you can too: shoes that tie themselves. Power laces, operated by electric components hidden in the sole, loosen and tighten with the press of a button. Video demonstration from today's GMA inside.

Invented by a San Fransisco hotel manager with spare parts from around the hotel, the shoes were initially designed to help her Parkinson's-ridden grandmother. After a YouTube video demonstration went viral, the shoes are reaching a larger market. The inventor is currently fundraising to improve on the design and make an entirely hands-free pair. It might be time to throw out those Velcro sneakers.
