Japanese PM's Fashion Sense Could Ruin Career
Japan's embattled Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, sitting on a 24% approval rating at home, may have done himself in by wearing a multi-colored plaid shirt that has pissed off the entire country. That, and his wife is totally nuts.
Hatoyama recently hosted a cookout for everyday voters, which he dubbed "Real Hato Café," in an effort to reach out to some of the people who hate him. But when he showed up wearing this shirt (pictured), people went crazy. Fashion critic Don Konishi told CNN:
This shirt comes from the '80s or '90s. His ideas and philosophy are old. Japan is facing a crisis and we can't overcome it with a prime minister like this."
Konishi also wrote recently in a magazine column that, "It seems the [Democratic Party of Japan] is over with this shirt." But Hatoyama's taste is not the only thing hurting his image. His wife is an author, and wrote about an encounter with Tom Cruise she had in another life. She also gets an energy boost by "eating the sun." So yeah, good luck with all that, Mr. Hatoyama. You should know not to mess around with when it comes to fashion and Tom Cruise in Japan.
