A rogue employee of the British Foreign Office wrote a satirical (?) memo with suggestions for the Pope's September UK visit. Included: "launch of 'Benedict' condoms" and "Open an abortion ward". Now the British government has apologized.

But why? The ideas proposed by the junior Foreign Office official and circulated among important officials sound great! Here are the suggestions included in the March 5 memo titled "The ideal visit would see..."

The memo was careful to note that: "The ‘ideal visit' paper in particular was the product of a brainstorm which took into account even the most far-fetched of ideas." Indeed, Jimmy Dean sausages would sponsor the Israeli soccer team before the Church would announce a "harder line on child abuse." The official responsible—"an Oxbridge graduate in his 20s"—has been sacked, as they say in England. But you've always got a job waiting for you over at Gawker, hilarious British Foreign Office official.
