The daughter of producer Bruce Paltrow and actress Blythe Danner, Gwynnie wasn't exactly waiting tables before she got her big break. Born in LA, she moved to Manhattan and had a handful of acting opportunities waiting for her, like when family friend Steven Spielberg's (whom she called "Uncle Morty") cast her in Hook. Within a few years she was scoring roles in movies like David Fincher's Se7en and Paul Thomas Anderson's Hard Eight. As the '90s wore on, Paltrow carved out a niche as the eye candy of choice for middlebrow literary flicks, with star turns in Emma, Great Expectations, and a career-defining (and Oscar-winning role) as Viola de Lesseps in Shakespeare in Love. Although she followed up with Wes Anderson's The Royal Tenenbaums, she's spent most of the aughts in only a handful of films (Proof, Iron Man), but built her mockable treasure trove of a website/blog called "GOOP". 2010 saw Gwyneth's "comeback" in a guest starring role on Glee and as an alcoholic country singer in Country Strong, which has spurred rumors of a country album.

Before Angelina and Jen, Gwynnie was Brad Pitt's squeeze; the two had a very public three-year relationship and engagement in the '90s. She later dated Ben Affleck and Luke Wilson before marrying Coldplay frontman Chris Martin in 2003.
