Excerpts From the Biography Oprah Doesn't Want You to Read, Part 2
Yesterday we shared a bunch of excerpts from Kitty Kelley's gossipy new Oprah biography. Today: Another batch of potentially scandalous snippets from the book, provided you're willing to believe a 68-year-old woman who still goes by "Kitty."
The excerpts we posted yesterday mostly touched on Winfrey's wealth and diva-like behavior. Now we'll go back in time as Kelley recounts Oprah's upbringing and how a number of members of talk show queen's extended family dispute her version of events.
Oprah's cousin, Katharine Esters, for example, tells Kelley that while Oprah grew up poor, she wasn't quite as poor as she often suggests.
Oprah has described being forced to sleep on her mother's porch while her "light-skinned" sister slept with their mother in the bedroom. Esters doesn't dispute the porch story, but she says skin color had nothing to do with it. Oh, and she also calls Oprah a racist:
Speaking of skin color, one of Kelley's interviewees — a regular guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show— says he remembers her a little differently from the late '80s.
While we're on the subject of Michael Jackson, remember a few years ago when Oprah met with the late pop star's ex-wife Lisa Marie Presley and announced she was related to Elvis? Well, Aunt Katharine doesn't think there's a connection between The King and Queen of Daytime.
Did you know Oprah was a teenage prostitute? That's what Kelley claims, describing how Oprah would give her sister (Patricia) and their brother popsicles, instruct them to go play on the porch, and return inside to do "The Horse" with older men. Kelley also says Winfrey was on the verge of revealing this bombshell when she was writing an autobiography in the early 1990s.
Speaking of men—and in addition to John Tesh—Oprah once dated a radio DJ named Tim Watts. Unlike Tesh, though, this relationship didn't end well. Kelley says Oprah paid him $50,000 in hush money to keep quiet about some "lesbian affairs."
