I support the Obama's plan to teach young, inner-city kids how to grow their own food. Of course, it's hard to grow food in the inner city. Maybe we can start programs were inner-city kids travel to farms in the south to learn farming. Then again, how will they afford the trip? I guess the farm owners could pay and then the inner-city kids would just owe them. They could work off the debt by working on the farm. And also pay for their room and board. We just need a catchy new name to attract young people. Let's see, you plant stuff, so we should work that in. And station sounds familiar to inner-city kids like bus station, train station, etc. We'll call it a plant-station! Soon all the inner-city black kids will be working on plant-stations in the south. I bet even the Republicans would back this idea!

@Karlifornia: I can respect Michelle Obama's push to get people to eat organic but I can't escape the fact that it seems like a very bourgeoisie concern. Poor people can't afford organic and live in apartments which have no place to grow organic foods. I know it's just a starting position to get Americans to eat healthier but compared to Hillary's campaigning for health care as First Lady this seems very safe and nonthreatening.

@anonymousryan: I think part of this effort is starting community gardens in the cities or through the schools. I'm sure Mrs. Obama knows that apartments have minimal outdoor space.

In related news, our expected last frost date isn't until May 15th. I'd plant now (my seedlings want room to breathe, dammit) but as soon as I do we're gonna have a cold snap. Dammit. Lucky kids/First Lady of the United States of America.
