Mark Ebner of Hollywood Interrupted has posted a letter contradicting many of the accepted versions of events surrounding the Tiger Woods scandal. The letter is purportedly from Tiger's neighbor and close confidante of Tiger's agent. UPDATE: And a probable hoax!

UPDATE: Oh, Deadspin had a post last week about how this is basically a forwarded email chain letter going around and is probably fake. And it looks like Mark Ebner has pulled it from his site. So take that into consideration! Basically it looks like this email was a hoax that we should have been aware of, had we been reading the internet more closely (or at all) on Christmas eve. Original post below.

Read the full letter at Ebner's site. Highlights:

  • The letter-writer's version of the initial events: Tiger's wife Elin found a text message (and possibly photos) from Rachel Uchitel on Tiger's phone. Then she flipped out: "At one point Tiger turned away to look at the TV, and as he turned back, Elin hit him on the right side of the face with the head of a 9-iron. When she struck Tiger, she put a huge gash in the right side of his face next to his nose (causing his nose to bruise some), and virtually knocking two of his upper teeth out, and breaking the bone on the upper right side."
  • The reason Tiger didn't speak to the Florida cops initially is because he was in Phoenix, getting plastic surgery to fix up his busted face. His recovery from surgery will keep him away from cameras for another month, the letter-writer claims.
  • Tiger's yacht is currently parked close to Rachel Uchitel's parents' house; but the letter-writer says that Tiger is actually living in another neighborhood, Bay Hill, and being counseled by Arnold Palmer.
  • Tiger and his wife have been having intensive marriage counseling sessions, and their marriage may not be over; "Yes, Elin has retained a divorce attorney, but has not filed any papers, and as of yesterday had no intention on doing so."

We have no way of verifying this letter, but it's provocative, at least. If you know more, email us.
