Immortals No Match For Bernie Madoff
Two conceptual artists/nuts decided that they could stop people from dying by building bizarre apartments for them. But Bernie Madoff lost all their money! He's killed the dream of immortality through uneven flooring:
Arakawa and Madeline Gins are a couple of probably very sweet and creative and maybe brilliant but also borderline insane artists who decided that people die because their houses are too comfortable, so wacky houses will let us live forever!
They build buildings with no doors inside. They place rooms far apart. They put windows near the ceiling or near the floor. Between rooms are sloping, bumpy moonscape-like floors designed to throw occupants off balance. These features, they argue, stimulate the body and mind, thus prolonging life. "You become like a baby," says Mr. Arakawa.
Despite warning from so-called "doctors" that these buildings can actually make people's lives shorter by causing them to fall down and bump their heads, the artists made millions and sold several apartments before the Madoff scam sucked away all their savings. Robbing charities was bad enough. Did he have to deprive humanity of the Bioscleave House Lifespan-Extending Villa?
