· Had a double star brunette sighting today (11/18, Fri) at the Grove. First, Katie Holmes at Nordstrom, without any obvious entourage, wearing huge bug eyed, Mary-Kate style glasses and a white poncho-type arrangement. No one was really bothering her. She looked pretty pregnant. I did some Investigative Reporting (ie asked the shoe saleslady) and found out Mrs. Tom Cruise to-be bought Ugg slippers. Earth shattering. On my way out I saw Rachel Bilson & a female friend (not Mischa, looked kinda like Julia Stiles) coming in. She was dressed well and had on a lot of makeup. The Grove is a veritable treasure trove of celebrity.
· I was wrapping up a late lunch at Home in Los Feliz on Tuesday afternoon, when I looked up HIGH and saw the grizzled mug of Vince Vaughn trailing behind the petite frame of his paramour, Jennifer Aniston. I thought it must have been a digestive glitch, and blinked my eyes. Captivated, I watched them amble over to his chariot in waiting. Chivalry be damned and without so much as opening a door for his lady love, Vaughn whisked her away in his '95 Pontiac convertible. I guess Hollywood dreams do come true. There's no place like Home.
· I was walking through Farmer's Market yesterday afternoon, and as I passed the Soft Drink stand, I saw a tiny, porny-lookin' blond with ridiculous breasts and much leopard print digging through her wallet, while her musclebound escort was saying something about paying her back when they got to the car. I peeked to see what kind of cheeseball didn't have enough dough on him for a couple of sodas, and Lo! it was Vin Diesel. Stars- they're just like us!
· Saw Bill Murray and Jeaneane Garafolo sitting together on the deck of the foundation room at the HOB after the James Brown show last night. Looked like they were having a serious conversation, so I guess that doesn't count as canoodling. Aykroyd was there too, but he owns the place so not really a sighting.
· While ravenously devouring a sandwich at Greenblatt’s today (11/10), who happened to walk in the front door other than Geoffrey Rush. He’s quite humpy in my book (and, yes, I’ve been told my book is an odd one). I’m not positive if it was Jane Menelaus, his wife, with him or not, but he was with an attractive blond woman. He truly is a tall drink of water. Slurp…
· On Friday night (11/18), my friends and I went for a quick drink at the Chateau Marmont. In the 45 minutes we were there, we spotted Quentin Tarantino (wearing a cream-colored fleece pullover and looking like he put on a couple of pounds), Hank Azaria and Lindsay Lohan. LL was dressed in black and was racing through the lobby to the reception desk with an unrecognizable guy in tow. Having never seen her in person before, I couldn't believe how tiny she is (meaning both skinny and short).
· First week in November, saw Joaquin Phoenix (pre-hairfrog infestation) and mystery tiny blonde at Pace' on Laurel Canyon. My bf commented that Joaquin seemed to be lacking in the butt department. Should I be concerned that he's checking out Johnny Cash ass? My night would have been complete with just that sighting but Peter Dinklage followed shortly thereafter(no pun intended....okay, it was).
· Elijah Wood and his sideburns accompanied a date (a woman) to the Mortified show at M Bar last night (11/16). He seemed to enjoy the show as much as everyone else (it was hilarious!), and he and his lady love were totally into each other. There was hand-holding, forehead nuzzling, some kissy-facing. They were pretty into each other and the show, and didn't seem to notice or mind everyone craning their necks and trying to do the stretch-and-yawn-and-turn-your-head-180-degrees to get a peek, all the while whispering to their neighbors, "Yep, that's the hobbit!" At the end of the night, Elijah and his date waited at the valet for their car
and shared a fragrant clove cigarette. Ah, young love!
· At the stop light on La Brea and Melrose and looked into the giant black range rover next to me and saw the Sexiest Man Alive Matthew McConaughey smiling at me. Wearing a blue coat and hair slicked back but not greasy slicked back. Beautiful huge white teeth. So I smiled back and he kept smiling at me so I kept smiling at him. Then the light turned green and I went forward and he turned left. There was a woman with dark hair in the passenger seat but she was facing him and I didn't notice if it was Penelope or not. He is really hot!
· JOSH HARTNETT (and two friends) on Sunday at the Arclight. Watching Pride and Prejudice. I'm so happy he's in touch with his feminine side! Also, he looked really good. Much less "guy" and more "man" than I would have guessed. ANd great cheekbones.
· On Saturday, I had the pleasure to pull the rare “Double Brody Unicorn”. First, Driving up La Brea, I spotted Adam Brody and Rachel Bilson strolling unnoticed by the Stussy store. He was dressed as Waldo form the popular “Where’s Waldo” series. She looked incredible. Dressed kinda Olsen-y, but simply beautiful. Then, as if one Brody wasn’t enough, later that night I spotted Adrian at Coach and Horses on Sunset later on that night. He wore his hood up, because, as we all know, wearing a hood in a bar makes you way more inconspicuous.
· On Saturday, I saw Phillip Seymour Hoffman wearing a grubby yellow t-shirt and sitting, hunched over a notebook, at Stir Crazy on Melrose. And if that wasn't enough, Kate Mantelini totally came through today (11/21), delivering 3 celebrity sightings in a mere fifteen minutes. First, Bow Wow (with two massive bodyguards) standing at the curb and waiting for his car. Next up, not really a celeb, but... Matt Lesham (reality TV producer and former judge on Star Search: Arsenio Hall edition). And finally, David Spade, trying to go incognito in a baseball cap, walking out of the restaurant with a smoking hot chick who seemed to think she was with a much bigger star.
· Meg Ryan Wednesday night (11/16) at the Memoirs of a Geisha screening at the Academy of Motion Pictures, etc. Her skin was fairly glowy, but her lips frightened me. Keanu Reeves at the opening reception for artist Kenny Harris' show in Hermosa Beach Thursday night (11/17). Outside smoking and talking with some friends. He looked good, albeit a bit greasy/dirty, but he was kind of odd. Keanu yelled, "SORRY!" at my boyfriend, like he was mad that my man hadn't said, "excuse me," (though he hadn't bumped into him) when we walked by. Friday morning (11/19), Patrick Dempsey in his car directly behind me on the street where he lives in Hollywood. The requisite baseball cap, shades, cell phone, top down. Absolutely scruffilicious.
· Antics on 3rd Street Promenade this week (11/15) include: Keanu Reeves on the 14th in Arcana Bookstore, scruffy, tall, and motorcycle-helmet equipped, looking for books on an obscure artist he couldn't remember the name of (hard to eavesdrop as the other minty-fresh clerk there was helping me). Diane Keaton on the 15th at the Gap, tall, in archetypal menswear, glasses and beret; walking out of the (tiny!) lingerie section there and saying something about "those things and also Victoria's Secret." Oh, and a couple weeks ago at AFM, holding court at the other large table in BOA's small back dining room: Billy Crystal. All my associates from Germany kept not-staring. Doubt there will be more (it's not AFM anymore), but you never know.
· I was at El Cid on Saturday night for an after party for my friend's sketch/video comedy show, which was at the Fake Gallery. My brother, girlfriend and I were among the first ones to arrive at El Cid and were not allowed inside, since there was another comedy thing happening there that night. Apparently they were setting up or something. We managed to grab a booth outside and watch the hipsters as they entered the patio area. I saw this guy by the bar who looked real familiar. I couldn't quite place him at first, then realized he was Jarrett Grode, was was on one of my favorite shows, Undeclared. He played the DJ who boasted that he could spin Brit-pop into hip-hop on the first episode of that great, great show. A few minutes later I heard him yell, "Seth" and sure enough it was Seth Rogen (also of Undeclared, 40 Year Old Virgin, etc.) He looked exactly how you think he'd look. Beard, flannel-type shirt, etc. I so wanted to talk to him, but refrained. They eventually went inside and sat down for the stand-up comedians, I eventually drank another Sierra Nevada, Jack and Coke, then went home.
· Up and comer Monica Keena (Freddy vs Jason, Entourage) with a table of fantastic looking friends, and Anna Nicole Smith (repeat performance, complete with handcuffs) at Hamburger Mary's West Hollywood.
· This is a special "semi-stars go to rock shows" themed submission. I spied Danny Masterson at the My Morning Jacket show last week at the Henry Fonda. Wednesday Jason Schwartzman (all solitary-like) made his way out to the Ben Lee show at the Troubadour, where I think he may have been the only other person there besides myself that was not a 19 year old girl. The irony of Ben Lee being Claire Danes' ex and Jason being her current love interest on screen did not escape me. But really, the piece de resistance is my Busy Phillips sighting (aka Kim fucking Kelly from Freaks and Geeks!!!!!) at the Spoon show last night at the Wiltern. She may have been super trim and brunette, but I wasn't fooled.
· saw a 12 year old child wearing my grandmother's gold muumuu and oversize sunglasses. no wait, what was nicole richie, in the parking lot of hugo's in west hollywood, talking to a couple of friends in a prius (couldnt see who was in the car). circumstantial evidence she might have been eating brunch, based on said proximity to the gay denny's on a sunday, but no jury would convict based on that alone.
· The Tall Guy (Jeff Goldblum) spotted at about noon, 11/15, at Crunch at the Sunset 5, walking in for a workout. Guess he's not doing well enough these days in his career to have defected to Equinox (like everybody else of note who used to be a Crunch member). Seen at Jar on Friday evening, 11/11, Sara Rue enjoying dinner with friends. She's so skinny now! But healthy skinny. She appeared to be eating and having a jolly time.
· Yesterday while ordering scallops at the Los Feliz Albertsons seafood counter, I look to my right to see Alexis Bledel pawing through the packaged meats and the dairy case. She had opened a bag of pretzles and was munching on them as she loaded her cart with sour cream and stuff that seemed to be for dip-making. I was pleasently surprised that shes not as tiny in real life as I imagined— shes average height, normally thin, and actually kinda has a butt on her. She was dressed in chucks, jeans, and a tshirt, and had a rad camel colored suede bag that she carried around with her, cause she just left her cart in the asile while she walked around and shopped. It was nice seeing a celeb doing normal things and not being bothered, until some loud bleached-blonde latina lady goes up to her and was was all "Hey girl, aren't you Rory?" Alexis looked afraid and stammered "I don't know what youre talking about", and quickly fled the scene.
· —Friday November 18th, Michael Rappaport looking like Michael Rappaport, outside Sam’s Bagels on Larchmont Boulevard with two kids (presumably his), ages around 4 and 6ish. Unfortunately nothing more remarkable about this sighting. They seemed normal, one of his kids (both boys) was being very affectionate.
—Saturday, November 19th, Andy Richter with kids at the new Pete’s on Larchmont Blvd. When he got up to leave, one of his kids was running around their Audi A8L and Andy seemed highly annoyed with the behavior, though on good parental behavior since there were many onlookers. In person, Andy’s large double chin seems disproportionate to an otherwise not so flabby body. Okay, he has a potbelly, but he’s not as obese as his visage might indicate.
· saw the hebrew hammer himself, adam goldberg, at the spoon show (11/17). he was not in attendance with christina ricci.
· As the onion volcano erupted at my table at Benihana last night, a strange silence overwhelmed the room. Surprised by the sudden quiet, I turned around to see Paris & Nicky with two male companions (gay stylists?) slink over to a table in the front. From my vantage point I could not see what they were (or weren’t) eating or drinking, but I do know that they left when my table left, and I had been seated for a solid 30-45 minutes before they arrived. Looks like the Bentley must still be in the shop because the Hilton gals rolled in a black Range Rover. Did not see any visible scarring from the monkey incident, but was subjected to those stupid inch-long ponytails.
· today (11/16) at laurel canyon dog park, they were filming a movie called the dog problem which was apparently being directed by scott caan (cashing in whatever ocean 11/et al. cred he's amassed). also, isn't he supposedly james caan's nephew or something? he had a "faux-hawk" (so 2002) and was, for lack of a better word, prancy. anyhoo, giovanni ribisi was there acting with some chick we didn't recognize but who (according to IMBD) was in 50 first dates. either they were filming a scene where they were fighting (hence, "acting") or they hate each other since between takes they didn't exchange one word between them.
· Saw Tara Reid at Geisha House on Friday night 11/12. Is her hair yellow or is it just me? She looks Tara-ble! Also saw her outside of Mood before her bday party on Saturday...wearing some super fitted red dress...painted on maybe? The best part was seeing Hulk Hogan show up as I was leaving. Gotta love it!
· The Olsen twins together at the Viper Room on Thursday night (11/10) at the Kevin Max show, sitting in a booth, wearing huge winter coats in a swelteringly hot & packed venue. They both actually looked cute, neither looked like a homeless person, but neither cracked a smile the whole night. Danced in the booth with the same bored expression the whole time. Everyone else rocked out. Also spotted same time, same place in a booth on the opposite side of the room: Christian Slater. Remember when he was in Heathers and he was the coolest guy EVER? Neither do I!!
· At the Roxy last Friday night (11/11) saw Mischa Barton and her "derilicte" boyfriend Cisco Adler. They were watching Mickey Avalon and I'm hoping that in Mischa's head she was wondering who was more untalented Mickey Avalon or Cisco Adler. My vote's on Cisco. Although Cisco might be an untalented musician (have you heard Whitestarr? 'Nuff said), he does seem to have quite the skill as a bartender. At one point, he just went behind the bar and starting pouring himself and Barton drinks. The bartenders didn't mind and it certainly didn't look like he was paying for drinks. Barton looked beautiful and actually seemed rather pleasant and down to earth. She even signed an autograph for some girl that shoved a piece of paper in front of her face. Adler, on the other hand. He looks like he needs a bath, a shave and someone to tell him that he isn't in the Allman Brothers...In fact, he's not even good enough to make the Kings of
Leon. Also saw Serena and Venus Williams, same night (11/11) at Mel's Diner around 4:30 a.m. They seemed drunk (is
anyone sober at Mel's at 4:30 a.m.?) and took up two large booths with their posse. They were very loud but not rude and seemed to be in very high spirits.
· Matthew Perry today (11/10) with a male friend at The Farm in Beverly Hills. Looking tan, running his hands through what looks like real hair.
· This past Friday my celebrity sighting curse was broken thanks to a little place known as Hollywood Billards. Waiting for his car at the valet, was Eric McCormack aka Will from Will & Grace. He looked great, just like he does on the show. For being a straight man, he looked pretty gay. Maybe its just a Canadian thing.
· Soon to be King of All Media Adam Corolla, Cousin Sal, and Carson Daly at Hollywood Billiards for some sort of party for Adam's show Too Late. (Wed. night, 11/16)
· Saturday the 13th. Wentworth Miller of "Prison Break" fame eating lunch by himself at Joans Cafe on Third Street. The place was packed and I think they're enlarging the place - hopefully. Anyways, he looked as gorgeous as ever and was reading a script, but then again, on third street, who isn't? Kimberly Stewert on Robertson Boulevard. She looked like a dog at a dog show - paparazzi and camera crews were following here as she and a couple of sweatpants-clad girls pranced down the street. She proceeded to stop into the MAC store while they waited outside, and then they strode down past the Ivy where I could have sworn I heard two girls look over from their lunch and comment how 'obnoxious' they were being. I heard her talk and she sounds nothing more then a barbie with Daddy's credit card - the lights are turned on upstairs, but it is obvious that nobody is home. Also, sitting next to the boys of MAROON 5, which was lovely because they are all so delicious looking. All of them were smoking like it was going out of style and they looked like they were with a girl who resembled Lindsay Lohan when she was still in her red-hair-with-meat-on-her-bones stage.
· Melissa Joan-Hart looking extremely pregnant at Cheesecake at the Sherman Oaks Galleria. Looks like she just finished a big meal, and was perusing the Cheesecakes to-go. She was short and pretty and plump and no makeup and not worried or cared at all if people recognized her or not. No fake cat in sight.
· Anyway, invite or not, here's a quick sighting: Saturday night after the Death Cab show, I get invited by a friend to go to a party at the Vanguard in Hollywood, which is completely lame, even though we are sitting in the "VIP" section. It is, in fact, so completely lame it doesn't register that the guy who looks a lot like Carson Daly actually IS Carson Daly until my friend points out that it is, in fact, Mr. TRL who has been paying for the bottle service I have been so thoughtfully poaching. Yep - the party was so lame that I actually thought it was TOO lame for Carson.
· Today we had a shoot in Malibu and our meeting location was in the Cook's Market shopping center. My co-worker and I got out of my car and saw Rick (Def Jam founder, Johnny Cash/Neil Diamond-career rebuilder) Rubin. He doesn't look much different from all the recent photos in every magazine about his Neil Diamond collaboration. Definitely grey and paunchy. He was with some younger woman, not sure if she was his gal. She was helping him w/a bag of groceries he must've just bought at the Market. Strange thing is they were standing by a green scooter (was it a Vespa?). I assumed he lived near the Sunset Strip, so it's strange that he'd shlep all the way to Malibu (on a scooter!) just to get groceries. I really wish I had the new Neil Diamond album so I could tell him how cool it is (since that's what everyone's saying). Or I could've said, "Yeah, I love License to Ill and Bloodsugarsexmagik." Instead I left him alone and got pizza.
· Saturday November 12th... Went to see "Weather Man" at the fabulous Arclight (LOVE THE PLACE!!!) Before the movie, I made a quick water fountain stop to take a couple Tylenol for a sinus headache. Good thing too... cause who do I see maneuvering his way to the bathroom while executing a "I'm Too Cool To Take A Piss With The Peasants" shuffle all the way to the entrance... Gene Simmons; what a headache inducing CHEESEBALL sleaze! I'm I guy, and this guy gives me the willies; and this is comin' from an old KISS fan... Yuck! A true media whore without a cause... Stay indoors, please! Strangely enough he wasn't really dressed that bad; he was sporting a dark corduroy blazer and very faded designer jeans with a "If I Were Everyone Else I'd Love Me Too" smirk smeared on his face like. P.S. Also spied Steve Jones and Sarah Gilbert at Hugo's during lunch.
· saw smashing pumpkin james iha on saturday (11/12) at fred segal, browsing menswear that i could not afford. he looked, um, frail. i am officially over the manorexics.
· Coming from the Arclight parking structure (11/11), I was the last one in a packed elevator. Turns out the next person who wanted in but alas had to wait was John Taylor of Duran Duran fame. I managed to smile and keep eye contact as the doors closed while the eleven-year old in my heart who first fell for him, um 21 years ago, screamed "Ohmygod it's him! Ohmygod it's him!" I still feel all warm and fuzzy.
· My boyfriend and I sat next to Tom Dumont of No Doubt and his main lady last Saturday night at the Death Cab show. They got up to leave after the first couple songs probably due to the obnoxious light show that was burning our corneas. I asked him if he was in No Doubt and he smiled and nodded. I just started to giggle like a dork then got back to being disappointed about missing Stars.
· Jermaine Jackson was at whole foods in sherman oaks today at 2:00 pm and ordered about 5 sandwiches at the deli. He actually looked pretty good. Not so greasy and he was in a good mood because he kept smiling and giggling. And he didn't have on any makeup. I was in line with him and we actually had a quick conversation about sandwiches. I acted as though I didn't recognize him although the entire store was sweating him. And get this: He was with his daughter (she kept calling him Dad) who happens to be the girl in the picture that everyone was saying was Janet's secret child until Janet fiercely shut that rumor down. Fun times!
· I wouldn't normally write in about this, but, as a true fan, I must tell the world that I saw Mrs. Felice Martin (aka Katherine Cannon, aka Donna Martin Graduates Mother, aka, I'm the Ho that had an affair at the Bel Age Hotel while Color Me Badd was staying there on that fateful stormy day). She was shopping at Ralphs in Westwood. I was tempted to go up to her and tell her what a fan I was, but even I know how creepy that would have been.
