This afternoon, officials in Newtown, Connecticut released the 911 calls from last December's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary. The calls, while harrowing and difficult to listen to, show a calm response from town dispatchers as they advised the janitor, teacher, and seven others who called to report the tragedy.

Shortly after the shooting, the Associated Press requested the 911 calls through the Freedom of Information Act. Connecticut state prosecutor's objected, saying the calls would interfere with their investigation as well as violate the rights of the survivors, most of whom were children, and the wishes of the victim's parents. Earlier this year, a judge ruled in favor of the AP and ordered Connecticut officials to release the calls.
