According to the Associated Press, the chief of Nepal's mountaineering association says that human sewage has become a critical problem on Mount Everest, urging his country's government to make visitors properly dispose of their shit and piss.

At least four people have perished near the peak of Mount Everest this weekend, and the body count may yet rise according to unconfirmed reports from the site.

An apparently long running dispute between China and Nepal over the exact height of Mount Everest should be put to rest, after Nepalese officials said they would measure the mountain using GPS. Today, Nepal and China both recognize a height of 8,848 meters — but in recent border talks China has used the rock height of Mount Everest, while Nepal wants to recognize the snow height, which is about meters higher. Global positioning systems will be set up at three separate locations, but it will be two years before the official height is measured.

Ang Tshering Sherpa, a 51-year-old Nepalese climber, surpassed his own world record for the most ascents of Mount Everest today with his 21st summit. That's impressive, to say the least. [AFP]

The search for Chhewang Nima, a Nepalese sherpa famous for climbing Mt. Everest 19 times, was called off today on Mt. Baruntse in the Himalayas. Nima was caught in an avalanche on Saturday and hasn't been seen since.

A 28-year-old Scottish climber, Peter Kinloch, was 600 feet into his descent from the top of Mount Everest when he lost his eyesight. 12 hours and only 200 feet later, his fellow climbers decided they had to leave him.
