Roy S. Moore, pictured above, is the Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, the highest authority in the state’s highest court. This week, he used his considerable influence to (again) outlaw gay marriage in Alabama.

Twitter has been in a frenzy all day, jubilant over this morning’s decision regarding marriage equaility. Er—marriage equaality. Marriage equity. Marriage equus? Who knows. Twitter sure doesn’t!

Calling the Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage ruling a “victory for America,” President Obama affirmed the landmark decision Friday morning, saying all people are equal “regardless of who they are or who they love.”

Today, a handful of people favoring the preservation of an abstract institution over the quality of actual human lives took to the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol for the March for Marriage, which was organized by the hate group the National Organization for Marriage. Usual suspects like Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee showed up to spout the usual rhetoric: ensuring that gay people can't get married is about love not hate, kids need a mother and a father, people need the religious freedom to discriminate against whomever they arbitrarily choose, and gay people are bullies for fighting back at the o.g. bullies who go out of their way to interfere with and cast judgement on their lives. There was also the repeated claim that gay marriage has never been enacted by popular vote, which is just bullshit. Shocking that the "traditional marriage" crowd would resort to lies to keep people persuaded.

Staff Sgt. Tracy Dice Johnson, a National Guard soldier whose wife, Staff Sgt. Donna Johnson, was killed in Afghanistan in 2012, has learned that she will receive survivor benefits from the VA, the first same-sex spouse to be afforded that privilege.

Just before the Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage, Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski made a clear endorsement of marriage equality. Murkowski, a Senator since 2002, joins two other Republicans in the Senate (Rob Portman of Ohio and Mark Kirk of Illinois), in supporting the rights of gay and lesbian couples to marry.

Former future dirty old man/cross-singer Prince granted a "rare and far-ranging, two-hour-plus interview late, late on Monday night" with his hometown paper The Star Tribune. One thing he wouldn't discuss? Minnesota's recent passage of marriage equality. Says the paper:

Minnesota’s state Senate just voted 37-30 to legalize gay marriage, making it the twelfth state (second in the Midwest) to do so. The bill will take effect August 1, which is a Thursday, so everyone keep that weekend free.
