Today on Live With Regis and Kelly, pint-sized Kelly Ripa strapped herself into a harness and ventured skywards to awkwardly join illusionist David Blaine in the midst of his latest attention-whoring stunt: hanging upside down for three days in New York's Central Park. He stopped eating a week ago so he won't have to go to the bathroom and is using a catheter, plus, he's been warned the feat may leave him blind. Fun! But nay, fear is not a factor for Blaine - who told Ripa he's only scared of beatles and spiders. Did you catch Anderson Cooper on Live! With Regis And Kelly this morning? If you did, you got something of look inside the CNN heartthrob's conflicted soul. First Cooper said his favorite Project Runway contestant is the one who's really into leather — heh. Then came a long stretch where Cooper really couldn't stop himself from revealing more and more of his involuntary obsession with the with the "atrocious... trainwreck" of a reality show Living Lohan. Cooper said actress Lindsay Lohan's mother Dina and sister Ali are "horrific people," with Ali set to become a "striptease person" (well, of course). But he can't look away — Cooper even makes time for the show while reporting in a warzone. And don't we all sorta feel that way about reality television? We don't know why CNN anchor stud Anderson Cooper is always on Regis and Kelly, especially when it always ends up being quite uncomfortable for everyone involved, but he was back on this morning. And they forced him to almost involve himself in an "improv" exercise in which Kelly Ripa and comedienne Cheryl Hines pretended to be fighting over him, sort of. Poor Regis Philbin. All old and befuddled and never having any idea what's going on. Save, of course, the occasional moment when some dim spark will fire in his brain and he'll remember a few tidbits that his producer fed him before an interview. Today Regis and Live! co-host Kelly Ripa chatted with The Hills' Lauren Conrad about being on a reality show. Regis exasperatedly demanded explanation for her break-up with ex-boyfriend Jason. Then, after Kelly mentioned Heidi Montag, Lauren's ex-best friend, Reeg plaintively, and without explanation, intoned that he misses old Heidi. Finally, out of nowhere he remembered that Montag was on an episode of Jimmy Kimmel in which she said that she prays for Lauren. Regis reminded Lauren of this, in bellowing fashion, without any sort of follow-up question. It must be so awkward to be a guest on this show. Kelly, I never thought I'd say this, but you're a saint. Poor sad Anderson Cooper. He guest hosted Live! With Regis & Kelly this morning (Regis was out) and he and Kelly got into a discussion about the Super Bowl and Super Bowl parties. The CNN anchor and almost definite gay person admits that he doesn't like parties at all because he's "a complete loser." Aww blubber blubber blubber. You know what was cute when you were 19 and awkward that isn't cute when you are rich, famous, good looking and talking to a robot made by the Frito-Lay corporation (Ripa)? Self-deprecating crap like this. You like parties, Anderson. Just not the kind you can talk about on this show.
A bad-tempered Clay Aiken got a lesson in the modern media, during his recent Q&A with Newsweek. The American Idol contestant, who was trying to promote his part in Monty Python's Spamalot, was irritated by a reminder of his televised teasing by Kelly Ripa. "It was a year ago. This is Newsweek. It's not the National Enquirer." Can we talk about something fun? asked the interviewer. "No, we're done. I thought Newsweek would be more reputable. I'm surprised."
