cityfile · 08/27/09 07:06PM

• When you first heard the Olsen twins were breaking into fashion, you had a good laugh, didn't you? Well, it's been a few years since then and now "their success in a field as competitive as fashion is impossible to deny," says an enthusiastic Cathy Horyn today. Of course, it hasn't hurt that they're super-famous and worth a gazillion dollars either. [NYT]
• Things you didn't know about Vogue's André Leon Talley: He's partial to Juice Couture shorts at home, loves Uggs ("it's a cozy shoe"), and says The Golden Girls is his fave show on TV. [TONY]

At Home With Simon & Jonathan

cityfile · 06/15/09 10:32AM

Items that can be found inside the home of Barneys creative director Simon Doonan and interior design maven Jonathan Adler, per this week's New Yorker: Two garden gnomes. A paisley-patterned Ping-Pong table. A burlap bust of Napoleon. A huge black statue of a foot. A bar full of glasses emblazoned with skull-and-crossbones decals and labels reading "Arsenic," "Strychnine," "Cyanide," and "Wood Alcohol." And a large leather hippopotamus. Now you know! And after you're done reading about it, you'll find a few photos of the apartment here. [NYer]

• Fashion Week will move from Bryant Park to Lincoln Center beginning next year. [NYT]
• Former frenemies Rachel Zoe and Nicole Richie kissed and made up at a party in LA last week. The hugfest went down in front of a cameraman filming footage for Zoe's reality show, though, so a bit of skepticism may be in order. [WWD]

Simon Doonan's terrifically useful advice for surviving the recession and looking your very best? Take whatever money you still have left and give it to him! No matter how bad things get, Doonan says, you should be sure to continue shopping and keep up your "fierce and meaningful allegiance to, for example, Barneys and Jonathan Adler." Also: "Snag yourself a personal shopper who can streamline the process." And where do you find one of those? Easy! "Call Pat Drake at Barneys—she used to be a Rockette!—or email her at pdrake@barneys.com, and she will get you hooked up." And if you have any cash left over, you can always meet up with Jonathan for a $10,000 lunch. [NYO]

Lunch with Jonathan Adler: Yours for $10,000

cityfile · 11/13/08 12:03PM

Just in case you have some extra cash burning a hole in your pocket and you happen to be totally obsessed with Jonathan Adler, W Hotels has introduced the "Design Dream" package. The basic promotion includes a "stylish" room rate and a basket of Adler-branded goods. But for $10,000 more, "design-daring guests" will get a "personal one-on-one session with the legendary potter himself" when he joins you for lunch and then accompanies you on a "private shopping spree at one of his stores in New York City." Alas, no word on whether you can throw in a little extra and get Simon to show up, too.

Simon and Jonathan's Big Day

cityfile · 09/24/08 07:33AM

He knew we were waiting for details, and he hasn't kept us in suspense: Simon Doonan's wedding to Jonathan Adler was, says Simon, "a perfect day," during which the lovebirds laughed, cried, and "threatened to stomp on each other" instead of stomping on a glass. They then headed off on honeymoon in Big Sur not alone, but with Jonathan's mother and sister, Ruben and Isabel Toledo, and Ariel Levy and her wife Amy Norquist. [NYO]

Simon and Jonathan Tie the Knot

cityfile · 09/19/08 06:20AM

Nice news to cheer up a rather dismal week: Yesterday New York's favorite gay couple Simon Doonan and Jonathan Adler got married at City Hall in San Francisco! After fourteen years together, the Barneys creative maestro (Doonan) and rapidly-expanding designer (Adler) decided on a small ceremony with Adler's mom and sister as guests, where Adler made the most romantic of gestures: he switched off his Blackberry! A "more formal" Jewish ceremony followed at a hotel. The happy couple is now on their honeymoon at Big Sur. Congrats!

Happy Birthday

Today in Gay Weddings: Simon Doonan and Jonathan Adler

Richard Lawson · 07/23/08 03:20PM

It's the stylishest, middle-ageist, gayest wedding of the year! Homewear designer and Top Design judge Jonathan Adler ("see you later decorator!") will be marrying Barney's creative director Simon Doonan. "I always thought we were married, so I don't feel like celebrating the fact that the government's allowing me to think I'm married. It's more like paying a parking ticket," says Doonan, romantically, of the occasion. Oh! Oh! Maybe Tim Gunn and Thom Browne will be next. Sure they aren't dating and Thom may have a penchant for the youngs, but they're both stylish! And, um, middle-aged! [Towleroad] Photo via Times

Mr. and Mr. Doonan-Adler

cityfile · 07/23/08 02:28PM

In a world where hetero marriages are falling apart all over the place, it's nice to know we can rely on the gays to keep our romantic ideals intact. At the Couture Council of the Museum at FIT cocktail party, multi-tasking man-about-town Simon Doonan revealed to The Cut that his longtime boyfriend, designer Jonathan Adler, was going to make an honest man of him. So why, after being together for more than a decade, have they decided to make it official? Well, you can't expect a Jewish mother not to push for a wedding:
