The public relations industry features a low bar for entry and an even lower bar for performance. Were the bars to get any lower, it would be an underground prison, rather than a hell on earth. This is PR Dummies. Hella dumb, every week.

The CDC has released its big huge annual report about this nation in which we live (America), and how our health is, here (in America). A special highlight this year is a detailed look at exactly how being poor and/ or uneducated will screw your health. America's Diet Mainly Consists of Soda

Hamilton Nolan · 05/16/12 10:10AM

Soda: the fizzy plague. The nectar of diabeetus. The bubbles of death. The artificial flavors and colors of tongue fun. Americans are drinking less soda these days, what with the undeniable public realization that that shit is poison, and the associated social shaming that goes with being a poison drinker. And thank god for that. But to be clear: you, Americans, you fools, still drink way too much poison swill of doom (soda).

Matt Toder · 05/15/12 11:57PM

On tonight's Late Show with David Letterman, NBC news honcho and Gawker correspondent Brian Williams chatter with David Letterman on a variety of subjects, one of which was his kids. When Letterman suggested that Williams might hire his son, as aspiring sports journalist, Williams joked about that being nepotism. Bill Maher Would Like Some More Biden Gaffes, Please

Matt Toder · 05/11/12 10:19PM

It's become clear that Joe Biden going off script during last week's appearance on Meet the Press accelerated President Obama's statement on gay marriage, which is fine by Bill Maher. On tonight's Real Time, Maher made a plea for more of Biden's gaffes, so long as they lead to Democrats saying what they actually believe and not just what they think is politically prudent.

Adrian Chen · 05/11/12 03:27PM

So, the New York Times published a long article yesterday about how great rage comics are but I've been too busy slamming my head into the side of a parked UPS van to write anything about it until now. So here goes: Fuck rage comics.

Jonah Goldberg Is a Bitch, and Other Observations on Armchair Threats

Hamilton Nolan · 05/11/12 09:12AM

Yesterday, former Gawkerer and current Salon writer Alex Pareene wrote a completely accurate and well-deserved knife-twisting takedown of Jonah Goldberg, the National Review's most youthful self-impressed hack. If you are unsure as to whether or not Jonah Goldberg is a hack, I encourage you to read Pareene's piece in full. Besides being a hack, we'd like to point out that Jonah Goldberg is also the most sniveling sort of armchair warrior bitch.

Stephen Colbert Knows that Many Things Are Threatening America But the NYPD's Stop and Frisk Program Isn't One of Them

Matt Toder · 05/10/12 11:15PM

On tonight's Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert broke out the Threat Down segment to count off all the ways the American way of life is on the brink. One thing that isn't threatening the country, however, is the NYPD's "stop and frisk" program, which is pretty racist on account of stopping more black men than actually live in the city. But Stephen understands the truth: that there's a tear in the universe and "stop and frisk" is our only line of defense.

On tonight's Daily Show, Jon Stewart continued to examine the ramifications of President Obama's statement about same sex marriage by looking at Fox News' response. He looked specifically at the ways that response has evolved over the years from same sex marriage as first step in bestiality to same sex marriage as political posturing to the majority.

USA Today Warns You to Beware of the Kinky Sex Revolution

Hamilton Nolan · 05/10/12 10:15AM

Hotel room doormat USA Today is the first source that Americans turn to to learn about angels. But what about devils? The devil on your shoulder—and by "shoulder," we mean "sexual organs." Will this Fifty Shades of Grey book your book club wants to read turn you into a dirty little sex fiend slut, that's right, because you know you like it? Or what?

'Stop and Frisk' Is Basically a Black Guy Harassment Program

Hamilton Nolan · 05/10/12 08:53AM

The NYPD's "stop and frisk" program has garnered criticism in the past, in part because it is essentially one big "Racism License: Hunt Anyone That Your Personal Prejudices Cause You to Deem as 'Suspicious' At Will" license for NYPD officers, who are not, as a group, known for their unerring sense of racial fairness. In other news, the numbers show the stop and frisk program is being used racist-ly.
