Spitzer to Ashley Dupre: 'You Lied'

cityfile · 01/28/10 01:07PM

Okay, so Eliot Spitzer didn't actually call Ashley Dupre a "liar." But in an interview with BigThink, he was asked whether the ol' socks story—as you probably recall, Dupre claimed the ex-governor insisted on wearing calf-length, black socks during sex—was true or not. His answer, which comes at the 28-minute mark and is accompanied by the most embarrassed look you will ever see flash across Spitzer's face, is "No." [BigThink via Politico]

'Brutally Honest' Spitzer Book Out in February

Ravi Somaiya · 01/19/10 05:01AM

A tell-all Eliot Spitzer book, by one of his (soon-to-be former, one presumes) best friends is out next month. Lloyd Constantine says his version, called 'Journal of the Plague Year: An Insider's Chronicle of Eliot Spitzer's Short and Tragic Reign' is "brutally honest." [NYP]

Is the Daily News in Bed with Madam Kristin Davis?

cityfile · 12/17/09 11:30AM

On Tuesday, the New York Daily News took the New York Post to task over its new "sex, love and relationship" columnist Ashley Dupre, calling the ex-hooker's advice "useless" and bemoaning the fact Post editors have insisted on giving Dupre a "16th minute of fame." But the Daily News is a friend to publicity-seeking former sex workers, too! Look no further than Kristin Davis, the madam who claims she provided escorts to former Gov. Eliot Spitzer. Over the past 11 months, the News has mentioned Davis in no fewer than 16 articles, many of which link to her website and plug her self-published paperback book. (Just yesterday, she earned a mention when the Daily News' Gatecrasher column interviewed Davis about her plans to run against Spitzer for state comptroller in the event he decides to run himself.) It's almost like the paper has Davis on speed dial, doesn't it?

Elin Moves Out; Kate Hudson Keeps Her Head Up

cityfile · 12/16/09 08:02AM

• A "bone-thin" Elin Nordegren moved a big bunch of belongings out of the Florida mansion she shares (shared?) with Tiger Woods yesterday; she's supposedly headed "somewhere warm" for Christmas. As for Tiger, it seems he's going to spend Christmas with "the boys." Maybe Rachel Uchitel will stop by for a visit? According to tabloid reports, Tiger is still in contact with Mistress No. 1, and is hoping to squeeze a little time to get together. [NYP, NYDN, People, Us]
• Lindsay Lohan may have to put off any more trips to rescue exploited children living in Third World countries. A judge has ordered her to start attending her alcohol education program classes "every single week" because, well, "it's been long enough." [Us]
• Why did Alex Rodriguez and Kate Hudson break up? According to a highly dubious story that one of the slugger's pals has been telling the tabloids, it was because Hudson wanted to be on camera when she sat in the stands at Yankee Stadium, whereas A-Rod really wanted someone "more interested in building a long-term relationship than just building their profile." [Us]
• As for Hudson, she's dealing with the split from A-Rod by spending some quality time with her movie star parents, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. Goldie turned up as Kate's date to the Nine premiere last night. [HL, DM]

Spitzer Rumors Revived

cityfile · 12/10/09 10:23AM

Remember back in September when the Post reported that Eliot Spitzer was thinking about getting back into politics and running for state comptroller? The ex-governor denied it, but the Post has a fresh story today about Spitzer's plans, and is now reporting that the disgraced governor is now "strongly considering" mounting a campaign for comptroller and "wants to run if he can." You can, Mr. Spitzer! Ashley Dupre has already blessed your return to politics. What else could you ask for? [NYP]

Tiger's Troubles Multiply; Uma & Arki Split

cityfile · 12/08/09 07:47AM

• It looks like Tiger Woods' wife has had enough. Elin Nordegren moved out of the couple's Florida home yesterday and is staying at another home nearby. It doesn't look like she's planning to come back. Swedish news outlets are reporting that she paid $2.3 million to buy a house in in Sweden last week. [Radar, NYDN, NYP]
• Another 911 call was received from Tiger Woods' house last night. It's still unclear what happened, but an ambulance transported a middle-aged woman to the hospital and a "blonde woman" reportedly followed behind in an Escalade. One possibility is that it was Elin Nordegren's mom, who flew to the U.S. last week to be with her daughter. [TMZ, Radar]
• Yet another Woods mistress may be getting ready to come forward. And this one's claiming she has cell phone photos of Tiger's nether regions. Playgirl says it's is in the process of "authenticating" the pics to make sure it's him. How it plans to do that is unclear, although there are nine women (and counting) who should be able to help, presumably. [Us]
Uma Thurman and fiancé Arki Busson have called it quits. And Bernie Madoff may be partly to blame. The Swiss financier reportedly lost a bundle investing with Madoff, and that may have put a strain on the relationship. [NYP]

Lady Gaga Meets the Queen of England

Maureen O'Connor · 12/08/09 05:24AM

Angelina's secret second family: seven Muslim children, and a wife. Lady Gaga spawns jokes about old queens, Suri Cruise goes glam like never before, Tiger Woods' wife buys a mansion in Sweden. Tuesday gossip keeps coming back for more.

Maureen O'Connor · 11/11/09 03:51AM

Eliot Spitzer will deliver a lecture on ethics at Harvard's Center for Ethics this afternoon. $20 anyone who manages to utter Ashley Dupre near an open mic.

Spitzer Cuts Another Deal

cityfile · 10/08/09 09:40AM

When Eliot Spitzer isn't denying reports that he plans to return to politics, teaching classes, or living the life of an ordinary New Yorker, he manages the real estate company founded by his father. Back in March, as you may recall, he cut his first major deal since taking over his dad's firm when he acquired an office building in Washington, DC for $180 million. Well, he's still doing deals, albeit on a slightly smaller scale. Yesterday he sold off a parking garage on East 38th Street for $10.2 million. And he's a joy to work with, in case you were wondering. The man who bought the garage from the former governor describes him as a "total gentleman." [NYO]

Beware of (Spitzer's) Dog

cityfile · 10/07/09 11:59AM

Attention, Manhattanites! If you're out walking your dog—or thinking about innocently petting one on the sidewalk—be wary of a wheaten terrier named James. He belongs to Eliot Spitzer. And he's not exactly friendly. When this reporter unsuspectingly tried to pet him last night near the Metropolitan Museum, his dog walker issued a firm warning. "Those are the former governor's dogs," she said. "And that one," she said pointing to the aforementioned, seemingly sweet terrier. "He's mean, and he bites!"
