Ever since 22-year-old Lawrence Reed, pictured at left, was found driving—and subsequently crashing—33-year-old Marco McMillian's SUV on a highway in Tennessee last week, news outlets have been trying to piece together exactly how the two men knew each other. McMillian, an openly gay candidate for mayor in Clarksdale, Mississippi, was found dead near the Mississippi River after Reed pointed police to his body, prompting many to immediately presume McMillian's death was a hate crime (a black gay man being murdered by bigots in Mississippi wouldn't be much of a stretch). Yet as more details emerge, McMillian's killing seems to be less about a targeted hate attack and more about a relationship that soured.

Eighteen-year-old Alisa Massaro confessed to having sex with her boyfriend, 24-year-old Joshua Miner, on the bodies of two men that Joliet, Ill. police say the pair killed in January, according to the Joliet Patch (yes! There was a gruesome scene Sunday morning in Manhattan's Chinatown after a man attacked his wife with a meat cleaver, causing critical injuries before nearby firefighters came to the woman's rescue. The unidentified 28-year-old attacker was pulling his wife down a busy street when two New York City firefighters, Jose Ortiz and James Trainor, spotted the pair from their firehouse and attempted to intervene.

Today, we received a reply from Britt Ripkowski, who is awaiting execution in Texas for multiple murders.

Warren Lee Hill (pictured) was already serving a life sentence for one murder when he was convicted of murdering another inmate in 1990 and sentenced to death. Since that second conviction, three forensic psychiatrists who initially said Hill was mentally fit for execution have recanted their original testimonies, saying that they were inadequately prepared before and are now certain Hill is mentally retarded.

Paralympic champion and accused murderer Oscar Pistorius told a packed courtroom through a statement today that he "had no intention" of killing his girlfriend, the law student and model Reeva Steenkamp, whom he shot to death on Valentine's day—contradicting the accusations of prosecutor Gerrie Nel, who at the same hearing argued that Pistorius committed premeditated murder: putting on his prosthetic limbs, walking from the bedroom to the bathroom, and shooting Steenkamp three times through the door.
