It's still unclear how many of the people on the "Madoff List" were truly victims of the Ponzi scheme. The trustee liquidating Madoff's financial firm has said that some of the people listed may have served as trustees or agents for other people who lost money, which may explain why some of the people who have stated publicly in recent weeks that they'd lost a fortune to the scheme don't appear at all. (Case in point: Ira Rennert has said he lost $200 million to Madoff's scheme, but his name does not appear in the 163-page document.) But it's interesting to go through the names anyway, and you don't even need to bother with the tedious task of scanning the PDF document: There's a Madoff victim search engine that has made the process much easier. Just point your browser here and you can look people up by address or name. After the jump, a long list of people who have turned up as possible victims in the last day or two.

You know what's really great about being wealthy and white? When you do something very bad, a judge will still probably allow you to go home to your comfy bed! Judge Jed Rakoff ruled today that Marc Dreier, the lawyer accused of bilking clients out of $400 million, can remain confined to his home on a $10 million personal recognizance bond. Dreier will have to pay to have armed security guards with him at all times, and they'll be entitled to use "reasonable force" if he tries to flee. And if Dreier gets bored sitting at home, he'll always be able to have nice, long chats with Bernie Madoff. [AP, WSJ]

Wednesday evening special: The full list of Bernie Madoff victims, trading partners, and customers has been released publicly. You'll need about four hours to go through it—it's 162 pages long—but if you've been wondering if your neighbor's sudden decision to trade in his Mercedes for a Hyundai was because he was a victim of the scheme, now you'll be able to find out. (The list was compiled by a firm retained by the trustee charged with liquidating Madoff's securities firm, according to the Post.) We'll let you know if we spot any notable names. Naturally, you're welcome to go through it, too, and email us if you spot anything interesting. The list in PDF format is here.

Fox Business has some pics from inside Bernie Madoff's offices at 885 Third Avenue. It's a horrifying sight, as you can see from the photo above. (So if you're in the market for an interior designer, this is one person you probably want to strike off your list.) A couple more pics below, but you can also watch the full video here.

Here's something to keep in mind if you've ever had a meal at Nisos, the tacky Greek restaurant along Eighth Avenue in Chelsea: A murderer may have cooked your dinner! A reader tells us the restaurant featured prominently in a recent episode of the A&E show Manhunters. It seems one of the restaurant's cooks just so happened to be Greece's "Most Wanted" fugitive, having been implicated in a murder, kidnapping, and extortion scheme. The good news? He was caught and will now be serving up moussaka to his fellow prisoners.

You missed your chance to swoop in like a vulture and take advantage of some of the poor souls who lost everything to Bernie Madoff's Ponzi scheme. Over the weekend, Palm Beach's Kofski Antiques held a two-day "Madoff Estate" sale and offered up the possessions of two Madoff investors who lost their fortunes as part of the alleged fraud. Included in the mix was a $3,000 mink coat and $3,850 crystal horse head. Then there there was this set of Eureka Grand Baroque Sterling flatware, which went for a mere $350. Don't be too disappointed if you missed out, though. Kofski's owner says he has another Madoff sale in the works, as well as a sale by a "top executive of Lehman Brothers." Excellent! We're totally buying one of Dick Fuld's old squash racquets.
