cityfile · 01/14/10 03:12PM

A judge in Rockland County sentenced former NY1 anchor Dominic Carter to a month behind bars today for beating up his wife in 2008. Carter wasn't too happy with the decision. But at least he didn't leave the courtroom empty-handed: The judge gave him a green sticker that reads "Attitude Makes the Difference" and an article about Matt Damon before he was escorted off to jail. No-Lock Hippies Totally Asking For It

Hamilton Nolan · 01/14/10 12:58PM

Apparently there are people who live in cities who don't lock their doors? My mom used to leave her car unlocked in a small Florida beach town, but that stopped after her car was stolen. This is different: these are people who live in large metropolitan areas and leave their homes unlocked, and, worse, talk to a reporter about it. The NYT had no trouble tracking down about a million of these people, to discuss their insouciant disregard for locking mechanisms. Although most insisted on remaining mysteriously unidentified by geography and surname! Fear factor. For the first person who can successfully track down "Matt," your prize will be three free televisions:

Anthony Marshall Catches a Break

It's unlikely Anthony Marshall will end up spending any time behind bars following his conviction last month of swindling his mother, socialite Brooke Astor. A judge ruled yesterday that Marshall can remain a free man while he appeals the verdict, and since it will probably take years for that to happen, the ailing 85-year-old can look forward to living out the rest of his life at his luxe East 79th St. co-op.
