The U.S. Department of Justice will investigate the death of Freddie Gray, the 25-year-old Baltimore man who died Sunday following spinal injuries he received while in police custody. Gray, who is black, was arrested last week for allegedly possessing an illegal switchblade.

Freddie Gray, 27, was arrested last week by Baltimore police. The Baltimore Sun reports that after sustaining mysterious injuries during his arrest and undergoing spinal surgery on Tuesday, Gray died this morning at Shock Trauma.

According to Baltimore police, three people have been stabbed at Morgan State University. One person, the Associated Press reports, is in serious condition. WBAL is reporting that the stabbing victims are all football players.

On Sunday, Baltimore police announced on Twitter there had been an officer-involved shooting on the city's west side. According to The Baltimore Sun's Yvonne Wenger, the shooting took place in front of a mural remembering slain teen Trayvon Martin.

The city of Baltimore is plagued by poverty and crime. Which is unfortunate, since its jails are plagued by corruption, sex, and contraband.
