Last night E! aired a special called Life After Anna Nicole: The Larry & Dannielynn Story, which was suposedly about Dannielynn, Anna Nicole's 7-year-old daughter, and the man she made her with, Larry Birkhead. Except it was more like a reality show pilot (seemingly constructed conversations and all), and it wasn't so much Dannielynn's story as Larry Birkhead's. That's disappointing because we've heard a lot from him, while Dannielynn has been sort of shrouded in mystery, despite periodical cameos in the spotlight (including modeling for Guess, just like her mom). The child barely said two dozen words for the entire hour. Still, a lovely kid. Clips of her—the real reason to watch the doc—are above.

Lifetime's Anna Nicole movie (directed by American Psycho's Mary Harron) was an upgrade from the 2007 biopic starring Willa Ford and also called Anna Nicole, but that's not saying a whole lot. While Agnes Bruckner did a decent job of conveying Anna Nicole Smith's goofy sweetness and sliding scale of self-awareness, the movie was weirdly still and bland for a life that was bursting with fruit flavor and silicone. (Dan P. Lee's New York story on which it was based, "Paw Paw & Lady Love," was much more vivid and empathetic.) Ignored almost entirely in this movie was Smith's knack for showing up in public an acting like a maniac — crucial to her legend was her long string of awards show appearances, red carpet camping and tabloid-TV outbursts. Smith's real gift for spectacle went mostly unexamined.

Empathy comes from the weirdest place and the least savory of intentions in the just-released documentary Addicted to Fame, B-movie director David Giancola's chronicle of his 2007 film Illegal Aliens - the movie that also has the distinction of being Anna Nicole Smith's last. She was hired specifically as a stunt, to cultivate the "oh my god they didn't" factor, as Giancola, puts it. But he never trusted her. To ensure her reliability, he got her to invest in the movie and, aware that he had a train wreck on his hands, he documented the filming process extensively.
