The man suspected of murdering his hedge fund manager father over an allowance cut is also the prime suspect in a suspicious fire at a romantic rival's Hamptons home, police say.

Thomas Gilbert Jr., a 30-year-old yoga enthusiast, was apparently already under investigation in connection with a suspected arson in Sagaponack, NY when he was arrested for murder. The late-night fire destroyed the home of two Peter Smiths, the New York Post reports:

The home was owned by millionaire ex-Lazard financier Peter Smith Sr., whose son, Peter Smith Jr., had had a falling-out with Gilbert Jr. over a girl, a source said. Smith Jr. already had a restraining order against Gilbert Jr., a court source said.

Gilbert was suspected of killing Smith's dog before the fire, a source added.

Firemen told 27 East they found a gas can and rags in a cemetery across the street. Gilbert is currently the main suspect, the Post reports.
