This past March, in honor of International Women's Day, a Brazil-based chain of fast Italian food restaurants offered women the chance to eat for free. The catch: They had to be beautiful.

To participate in Spoleto's "Beautiful Women Don't Pay" promotion, female patrons simply had to respond positively to the question "are you beautiful?"

The ostensible goal of the stunt was to boost the participants' self-esteem.

By the end of the day, some 500 women across the chain's participating restaurants took Spoleto up on the offer.

Mission accomplished? Well, as Eater notes, taking into consideration that the company has over 200 restaurants in Brazil alone, 500 "seems like a low number."
