Reese's First Post-Arrest Interview: "I Told [The Cop] I was Pregnant"
[There was a video here]
America's red wine demi-glace sweetheart, Reese Witherspoon, swung by Good Morning America this morning to weather her first interview since she and her husband were arrested for disorderly conduct and drunk driving (respectively) two weeks ago.
She was, as you would expect, very wide-eyed and apologetic. (And sober.)
Here's her account of the evening:
"It's one of those nights. We went out to dinner in Atlanta and we had one too many glasses of wine. We thought we were fine to drive and we absolutely were not. It’s just completely unacceptable and we are so sorry and embarrassed and we know better and we shouldn’t have done that."
Pressed by GMA host George Stephanopoulos for more information about the things she yelled at her arresting officer (among them: "Do you know my name?" and "You're about to be on national news"), Witherspoon called her outburst "crazy." She also revealed she had tried to employ the little known Get Out of Jail Pregnant card the night of the arrests.
"I saw him arresting my husband and I literally panicked. I told him I was pregnant. I’m not pregnant."
Sadly, under American law, it is still legal for a man to be booked for drunk driving, even if his wife is pregnant. (Or not pregnant.)
It is also inadvisable to get stupid drunk if you're pregnant.
Witherspoon told Stephanopoulous "the hardest part" of the ordeal was breaking the news of the arrest to her children, Ava, 13, and Deacon, 9 (baby Tennessee probably didn't care).
She wrapped things up with a couple cute lines about how even though she's played a lawyer in movies, she is "clearly" not one in real life "because I got arrested."
Other things Reese Witherspoon is clearly not: a 90's bad girl who gets sucked into a black and white 1950s TV program; June Carter Cash.
