Rap Controversialist and Reality Star Shot at His Mother's Funeral
Benzino—the would-be media mogul who founded The Source magazine and released a string of rap records before finding stardom on the VH1 reality show Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta—was shot on Saturday during his mother's funeral procession
TMZ reports that Benzino was shot by his nephew at the Massachusetts funeral due to a "growing family tension."
According to the Associated Press, the 48-year-old Benzino (real name: Raymond Scott) was traveling on Route 3 south of Boston just before noon when 36-year-old Gai Scott, who is the rapper's nephew, pulled alongside and fired several shots into a red SUV driven by Benzino, the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office said in a statement.
Benzino was injured but is in stable condition and his nephew has been charged with assault with intent to murder.
In a particularly macabre detail, mourners at the funeral didn't realize anything was amiss until the bloodstained hearse pulled up.
