In a recent speech, Senator Rand Paul alleged that abortion rights in Virginia will lead to eugenics. But the exaggeration and hysteria of his claim weren't the speech's biggest problems: turns out, it was lifted straight from Wikipedia.

On Monday night, Rachel Maddow compared the speech, which drew inspiration from the sci-fi eugenics-fest Gattaca, to the Wikipedia article on the movie. The results aren't pretty. One example:

Rand Paul: “In the movie Gattaca––in the not-too-distant future, eugenics is common. And DNA plays a primary role in determining your social class.”

Wikipedia: “In the not-too-distant future, liberal eugenics is common and DNA plays the primary role in determining social class.”

USA Today reports that Rand's office has not responded to any requests for comment.
