Pregnant Woman’s Baby Cut From Womb After She Answered Craigslist Ad
An absolutely horrific crime took place yesterday afternoon in Colorado: A seven-months pregnant woman responding to a Craigslist post for baby's clothing at a Longmont house was attacked and stabbed in her stomach, her fetus removed, allegedly by the woman who'd place the ad. The woman survived, but her baby did not.
The Daily Times-Call reports that responding officers heard a woman screaming for help from inside the home. When they entered, they found the 26-year-old victim, beaten and stabbed, with her unborn baby missing. She was rushed to a nearby hospital and operated on, and is expected to recover.
The 34-year-old suspect, who apparently did not know the victim, was arrested at the same hospital sometime later, after she showed up with the baby and told hospital workers she'd suffered a miscarriage. She was arrested on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and child abuse knowingly and recklessly resulting in death.
From the Times-Call:
The alleged assailant has two children, Satur said. Her husband apparently drove her and the baby to the hospital and then returned to the scene later. He was escorted to the hospital but has not been arrested and is not a suspect, Satur said.
"This is a tragic case for a mother right now," Police Cmdr. Jeff Satur told the Times-Call News. "She came by this house. She was attacked, and her baby was removed from her."
The brutal crime is the second Craigslist-related tragedy of the past six weeks; in late January, an elderly couple in Georgia were murdered after responding to an ad for their "dream car" placed on the site.
