Tens of thousands of protesters again converged on Cairo's Tahrir Square, even as vice president and torture chief Omar Suleiman said that the ruling party was "on the right path to getting out of the current crisis." This is the 15th day of demonstrations against the autocratic rule of Hosni Mubarak.
Florida Bans Snortable 'Bath Salts'
Jeff Neumann · 02/08/11 07:41AM
Following Louisiana's lead, last week Florida slapped an emergency ban on synthetic drugs that are marketed as "bath salts" because people are losing their minds after snorting and smoking "Vanilla Sky," "White Lightning," and "Ivory Snow." The state's attorney general was pushed to ban the "drug" after some people flipped out, according to NPR:

Last Friday a mother in Queens bought her kids a DVD at Toys "R" Us, Nickelodeon All-Star Sports Day featuring Dora the Explorer and her pal, Diego. The next day, Candice Connor sat down to watch it with her two sons, Nigel and Logan, but instead of watching Diego and Dora work on their swings and shoot hoops, Nigel, 11, told the Daily News:

Jeff Neumann · 02/08/11 05:20AMWhat Should Our New National Anthem Be?
Max Read · 02/08/11 04:15AMChristina Aguilera screwed up the lyrics to "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the Super Bowl on Sunday. And, hours later, when we realized she'd messed up the lyrics, the country was plunged deep into a crisis from which it may never emerge. Do we need a new national anthem? And if so, what should it be?

Max Read · 02/08/11 02:36AMMonday was the last night of musician/god Prince's run of concerts at Madison Square Garden, and because he is Prince, and does what he wants, he invited large-busted socialite Kim Kardashian to dance with him onstage (around 1:00 in the video). But she didn't dance! Instead, she stood there and pulled that awkward-pretend-laugh-oh-God-I'm-so-uncomfortable move that is a favorite of people who can't dance, or don't want to embarrass themselves trying.

Max Read · 02/08/11 12:31AM
Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, the $65 million Broadway musical from Lion King director Julie Taymor and Bono, of the Irish Bonos, was supposed to open on Monday night. It didn't—it's been delayed, again, till March 15—but that didn't stop a bunch of critics from reviewing it anyway. And they all agree: It's unbelievably bad.

Rooster Stabs Man to Death at Cockfight
Max Read · 02/07/11 11:35PM
A California man died last week after being "sliced" at a cockfight by a rooster with a knife attached to its leg. The stabbing appears to have occurred, like any pre-planned attack, in the commotion following a police raid. Now: I am not a cockfighting expert, but, if you are going to force animals to fight each other, it seems like you should not provide them with weaponry that can be used against you. Roosters are pretty scary even when they don't have knives! [Tulare Advance-Register; image via Shutterstock]

Max Read · 02/07/11 09:36PM
The Times reports that former MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann will likely announce a deal with Current TV, Al Gore's cable channel, tomorrow. (Guess he decided not to follow our advice, unless he'll be hosting a cooking show there or something.) Olbermann might also "separately pursue other ventures, like an Internet destination," which we hope means he'll keep Tweeting photos of snow in New York City. [NYT]
