Richard Lawson · 07/22/11 09:45AMHere's a trailer for the comedy A Good Old Fashioned Orgy, a movie about a very sexy Labor Day party. Well, it's not sexy, is the point, it's a bunch of regular old weirdos having an orgy.

A huge explosion (maybe two) damaged Norwegian government offices in downtown Oslo a few minutes ago. At least 8 people were injured according to the BBC. Newspaper employee Christian Algen was on the scene and took this video of the aftermath and snapped a picture of an injured person. Here are some more pictures from Norway's NRK. The cause of the blast is unknown, so far. (See here for an update.)

For the time in 20 years the execution of a prison inmate in the U.S. was videotaped, when Georgia executed Andrew DeYoung last night by lethal injection for killing his parents and sister in 1993. A legal fight between the state's prosecutors and the Georgia Supreme Court delayed DeYoung's execution by a day, but last night the camera rolled.

Jeff Neumann · 07/22/11 04:20AM
Despite threats from the U.S. State Department last summer that Kim Jong-il would no longer be able to buy jet skis and Iranian caviar, he's still shelling out millions of dollars on everything from Rolex watches to Gucci handbags for his top officials and he's even having McDonald's delivered by airplane from China, according to the Korea Herald.

Seth Abramovitch · 07/22/11 01:17AMAll told, things could have turned out a whole lot worse for Dez Heal, a 13-year-old boy from Lynchburg, Virginia, who was playing a game of ninja with his friends when he accidentally fell onto the bamboo spear he was using as a sword. The spear went through his neck, but avoided all major arteries, and when his father saw what he had done, he "calmly and collectedly" dialed 911. (That's actually the part of the story I have the hardest time processing.) It took five hours in an emergency room, but they finally got the splinter out and sewed Dez back up again. Yup, good as new.
Stephen Colbert Gives a Crash Course in Gay History
Matt Cherette · 07/22/11 01:05AMLast week, California Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law a bill requiring public schools to include contributions from gay people in its history textbooks. On tonight's Report, Stephen Colbert reviewed the negative reaction of conservatives (and Fox News) to the bill's passing before attempting his own take on the subject with a 60-second gay history crash course. Video of Colbert's segment is above.
Justice Dept. Close to Subpoenaing News Corp.
Seth Abramovitch · 07/22/11 12:29AM
The U.S. Justice Department is preparing to hand out its first subpoenas in connection with their investigation into News Corp.'s alleged hacking of 9-11 victims. In their report, the Wall Street Journal quotes an anonymous "person close to News Corp." who dismisses the subpoenas as being "a fishing expedition with no evidence to support it." (Gee, I wonder how they managed to track down that Deep Throat? "Hey Bob, I'm going for a Starbucks run. Want anything? Oh, and could you give me a damage-control quote for this thing I'm writing? Sweet.") The subpoenas, which would give federal investigators broad access to News Corp. records and information, need approval by a senior Justice Department official before they can be issued. Shouldn't be long now. [Photo: AP]
This Is the Heat Wave Sweeping America
Matt Cherette · 07/22/11 12:26AMWhile many central and southern states have been dealing with scorching temperatures for days now, it wasn't until this week that the heat wave began spreading east and enveloped the entire country. So just how much of the country is suffering from the sweltering heat? Check out the time-lapse animation from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to find out—and turn up the A/C while you're at it! [via Fark]

Paranormal Activity 3: Little Girls Can Be Evil, Too
Matt Cherette · 07/21/11 10:55PMHere's the trailer for Paranormal Activity 3, which, like its predecessors, focuses on Katie, a good-turned-evil suburban girl. And just like the franchise's second installment, it looks like we're in for another prequel, going back all the way to 1988 this time. The trailer promises to help us "discover the secret behind the activity" and is predictably full of creepy girl glares, creepy girl games (Bloody Mary!), and other things of a creepy girl nature. Paranormal Activity 3 will hit theaters this October—just in time for Halloween, naturally.
