Lauri Apple · 10/26/11 08:53AM

For their project "Super Rat," the members of the Japanese performance art collective ChimPom ran around the streets of Tokyo catching gigantic, poison-immune rats, took the rats home, then stuffed them and painted them up to look like the Pokemon character Pikachu. Art! It's a living.

Psst: Nobody Needs a Magazine About 'Social Media'

Hamilton Nolan · 10/26/11 08:34AM

Here's the thing about the internet sites Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Google: you do not need to read a magazine about them. For one thing, if you want to learn about them, you can simply type their address into your internet browser, and there they are, updated constantly, by the second, rather than monthly, as would be a case with a magazine. Want to know more? Why not read one of the thousands and thousands of blogs and online news sites that talk about them each and every day?

Lauri Apple · 10/26/11 05:22AM

Isn't it frustrating when some furry cat goes and leaves its hair all your clothes, complicating your efforts to present a cleaner and tidier You? Doesn't it make you want to just, I don't know, murder the cat with a pen, or choke it, or both? No?

Whiny Conspiracy Theorist Gets Yelled at by Rock Star

Lauri Apple · 10/26/11 04:04AM

Here we see a man named Richard Lee (not Rick, but Richard) raising a ruckus at a recent Seattle University event starring financial analyst/sports writer/columnist/former Guns n' Roses bass player/current Velvet Revolver+Loaded member/memoirist Duff McKagan. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer tells us that Lee is a local personality of sorts who espouses the theory that Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain did not commit suicide but was murdered by, like, everyone he knew. One of his pastimes is to ambush Courtney Love, Crisco Twister master/Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic, and other famous people who were close to Cobain and inspire them to seek restraining orders against him.

Matt Cherette · 10/26/11 01:53AM

The first lady let it slip in a recent interview that the president doesn't want the Obama girls tuning into Keeping Up With the Kardashians. So what is it about the show (well, besides everything) that bothers him so much? Jay Leno tried delving into the president's anti-Kardashian position on Tuesday's Tonight Show, but beyond admitting that he's never even seen the show, Obama wisely avoided any remarks that could have risked alienating the Kardashian voter base.

Matt Cherette · 10/25/11 11:26PM

On tonight's Daily Show, Jon Stewart brought up the increasingly extreme rhetoric being spewed by Republican presidential candidates, noting that even Pat Robertson expressed his concern about it in recent days. Of course, it's not that Robertson really disagrees with the candidates. He just wants them to keep their voices down long enough to win the general election: "The first rule of Right Club? Don't talk about Right Club."

Simon Cowell and LA Reid Trade Insults on The X Factor

Matt Cherette · 10/25/11 10:39PM

The X Factor whittled its contestant pool down to a dozen during its first live show tonight. One contestant hoping to impress the judges was Simone Battle, who'd advanced previously thanks to Simon Cowell and against the wishes of co-judge LA Reid. So when Battle's performance fell flat tonight, Reid wasted no time taking Cowell to task, setting off a little pissing match that you can see for yourself above.
