Republicans Furious at Obama for Staffing the Government
Jim Newell · 01/04/12 05:50PMTeen Girl Mistakenly Deported, Now Trapped in Foreign Prison and Pregnant
Maureen O'Connor · 01/04/12 05:43PM
"Distraught over the loss of her grandfather and her parents' divorce," 14-year-old Jakadrien Turner ran away from home, WFAA Dallas reports. Arrested for shoplifting in Houston, she used a fake name that actually belonged to a 22-year-old undocumented immigrant wanted for arrest. What follows is a nightmarish series of mistaken identities and institutional failures, culminating in a teen girl trapped alone and pregnant in a third-world prison.

Adrian Chen · 01/04/12 05:24PMGary Busey's Most Bizarre Moments from Last Night's Wife Swap
Matt Toder · 01/04/12 04:45PMWe all know that Gary Busey is a little (how should we say this?) "off" and last night's episode of Wife Swap didn't disprove what we already know. Busey welcomed Gayle Haggard, the wife of disgraced pastor Ted Haggard, into his home, giving him the chance to expound on some of his life philosophies, including his belief in past lives, love of high school athletics, and the importance of farting in the sink. Here is all the insanity in under a minute.
Prepare for Newt Gingrich's Greatest Display of Self-Destruction Yet
Jim Newell · 01/04/12 04:30PM
Newt Gingrich never got to complete his political career. He only lasted as Speaker of the House, a job he'd successfully wrangled after plotting his path for a psychotic 14 years, for a couple of terms, the latter half of which he spent as an incompetent figurehead. He was reprimanded and fined for ethics violations and forced out of power by the House Republican majority he'd brought to power for the first time in half a century.
Tom Ford Hilariously Can't Stop Talking About Himself
Brian Moylan · 01/04/12 04:19PM
The Tom Ford episode of Visionairies aired on OWN this fall, but I didn't even know about it until now. (Seriously, who is watching OWN other than Gayle, Maya Angelou, and that weird secretary who works in your office and is obsessed with Fergie—the British one, not the Black Eyed Pea.) Thanks to Steamy Window Productions for informing us of it and making this supercut of all the hilarious times Tom says the words "I," "me," or "Tom Ford" in the episode.

Max Read · 01/04/12 03:28PMColin Myler, who took over at News of the World after alleged phone-hacking mastermind Andy Coulson and presided over its abrupt end (that's him above, giving a final speech to his editors), has been appointed the new editor-in-chief of the New York Daily News—bitter rival of the New York Post, which, like News of the World, is a News Corp holding.

Maureen O'Connor · 01/04/12 02:15PM
Poor Marcus Bachmann. The gleefully gay-seeming, possibly pushy, highly catty Christian therapist husband of Michele Bachmann suffered two humiliations this week: First, his wife called out his doggie sunglasses shopping spree on live TV. Then, the famously press-conscious fashion fiend ("All I want to know is what they're saying about me," he told New Yorker reporter Ryan Lizza) was forced to stand next to Michele in the critical final moments of her campaign with a giant cold sore on his mouth! Must have been the stress. Tasteful doggie eyewear is not easy to find in Des Moines.

Brian Moylan · 01/04/12 01:45PM
Sinead O'Connor is back with her husband and sharing graphic details once again. For those keeping track, Sinead O'Connor got married in Vegas, told some inappropriate jokes, then 16 days later got divorced (possibly because of crack) but now the marriage is back on again. And so are the inappropriate jokes.
After Not Thinking About It Much at All, Rick Perry Will Stay
Jim Newell · 01/04/12 01:31PM
Adorable Texas bigot Rick Perry quickly decamped to the forests of his home state last night to "reassess" his campaign, which is usually what you'd say when you're dropping out but need a couple of days to raise cash and pay off the bills. But Rick Perry is clearly too insane to concentrate on such things for more than a few minutes, so he's already made up his mind and decided to stay in the race. He announced this via Twitter, with a classic "Rick Perry Photo," and without really teling anyone. Good form, Perry! The dream will never die.
Every Funny Headline Involving the Word 'Santorum'
Maureen O'Connor · 01/04/12 12:09PM
Santorum, as followers of politics know, is the Bible-thumping Republican underdog who tied Mitt Romney at last night's Iowa Caucus. Santorum is also, as users of Google and followers of Dan Savage know, a neologism for "the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the by-product of anal sex."
