What sort of people tend to die from alcohol poisoning? If you said "idiot college students," shut up—you're wrong, and drunk.

The CDC has published a new study that takes an in-depth look at who exactly is dying from alcohol poisoning in America. The vital stats:

  • 2,200 Americans per year die of alcohol poisoning, about six per day.
  • 68% of those who die are white.
  • Three quarters of those who die are men.
  • One third of those who die are between the ages of 45-54; three quarters of those who die are between the ages of 35-64.

So alcohol poisoning is definitively not a problem most deeply rooted in young college students. They're just more photogenic. (In some cases, there are always outliers.)
