More Poop Coming to Nation's Pork Supply
The US Department of Agriculture is planning to introduce a new program for safety inspections at pork plants across the nation. How is the new program different? It offers more poop in your meat.
As the Washington Post reports today, the USDA is not just rolling this new program out all willy-nilly: they've already tested it for years, in a pilot program. This new program, which features fewer safety inspectors inspecting the meat at a faster rate, has been thoroughly vetted, for your safety. The government is not just guessing here; they know that it will be worse.
But three of [the plants in the pilot program] were among the 10 worst offenders in the country for health and safety violations, with serious lapses that included failing to remove fecal matter from meat, according to a report this spring by the USDA inspector general...
