Jon Stewart Lays Into Megyn Kelly Over Race War on Christmas
With the typical "War on Christmas" fare getting stale and predictable, Fox News has stepped up its game, launching attacks against Festivus poles and black Santas. And the fact that shit's getting weird over there hasn't escaped Jon Stewart's radar.
On last night's The Daily Show, Stewart opened with a segment entitled "War on Christmas — Shit's Getting Weird Edition," and proceed to take both Carlson and Kelly to task over their make-believe grievances.
Stewart mostly brushed off Carlson's "manger danger" concern over a Festivus "protest" taking place in Florida in the form of a beer-can Festivus pole erected near the nativity scene at the state capital.
"It's Florida," Stewart reminded Carlson. "You're lucky there's not a stripper named 'Christmas' swinging on it."
But Kelly's dream of a White Christmas was a bit too out of race field, even for Stewart.
"Who are you actually talking to?" Stewart inquired, incredulous. "Children who are sophisticated enough to be watching a news channel at 10 o'clock at night, yet innocent enough to believe Santa Claus is real, yet racist enough to be freaked out if he isn't white?"
Stewart goes on to dismantle the "fact based" argument Kelly and her colleagues are trying to make about a made-up person who doesn't exist.
He points out that Santa is based on a real-life Saint who lived in a part of the world that is now Turkey, and that his skin was probably several shades darker than the one cooked up by Coca-Cola marketers in the 30s.
As for Jesus also being white, well, Stewart has something to say about that too.
