Hillary Clinton Smiles Radiantly as Benghazi Hearing Devolves Into Flaming Pile of Garbage
The drama ramped up this morning as the first half of the Benghazi hearing wound down, and let me just say—thank god for split-screens.
The hearing was at times indignant, self-satisfied and excruciatingly long, but against all odds it became exciting when Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) confronted the chairman of the committee, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) over his “inaccurate statements.”
Citing Gowdy’s unwavering interest in Sidney Blumenthal, Cummings made a motion to admit a transcript of Blumenthal’s testimony into the record.
“I move that we put into the record the entire transcript of Sidney Blumental. We’re going to release the emails, let’s do the transcript, that way the world can see it,” Cummings said, adding over Gowdy’s objections, “Mr. Gowdy, I have consulted with the parliamentarian and they have informed us that we have the right to record a vote on that motion.”
“The parliamentarian told me that your motion actually would not be in order for a hearing,” Gowdy replied. “But at the latest, we’ll take a vote and the first week we are back after this week, we’ll have a business meeting.”
Then they all covered their ears and yammered self-righteously until the time ran out.
Hillary, who said nothing, seemed to enjoy the exchange.
