Police Chief Thomas Jackson resigned today from the Ferguson Police Department, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Jackson's resignation comes one day after the city's chief executive quit and a week after the DOJ released a report exposing the police department as deeply racist.

"It is with profound sadness that I am announcing I am stepping down from my position as chief of police for the city of Ferguson Missouri," Jackson said in his resignation letter, which was obtained but the Post-Dispatch. "It has been an honor and a privilege to serve this great city and to serve with all of you. I will continue to assist the city in anyway I can in my capacity as private citizen."

The city released a statement confirming the resignation, which was described as a "mutual decision." Jackson will receive severance pay and health insurance for one year.

Two police officers, a municipal judge, and a court clerk also lost their jobs following the release of the DOJ's report, which was prompted by Officer Darren Wilson's killing of Michael Brown in August.
