For the California primary, Donald Trump has selected several people to represent him as delegates. One of those delegates is William Johnson, a famous white nationalist Trump was forced to disavow in January over a series of racist robocalls. But that was then and this is now: “I can be a white nationalist and be a strong supporter of Donald Trump and be a good example to everybody,” Johnson assures Mother Jones.

“I just hope to show how I can be mainstream and have these views,” Johnson said in an interview with the website.

It seems Johnson’s hard work so far this campaign has finally paid off—until now the most he could get was a winking disavowal from the candidate. In January, his robocalls rallying other racists, “Don’t vote for a Cuban. Vote for Donald Trump,” earned him a nod from Donald himself, who explained to CNN’s Erin Burnett that while he had to disavow the calls, he understood why people would feel that way.

“He disavowed us, but he explained why there is so much anger in America that I couldn’t have asked for a better approach from him,” Johnson said at the time.

Incredibly, the Trump campaign has not returned a request for comment.
