Brooklyn Woman Didn't Steal a Car, But Thinks Her Mom May Have
"I didn't steal your car but I think my mom may have. It's a long story. I'll explain, but your car is safe and sound," reads a flier with a photo of a green Honda, posted in Red Hook.
That long story started when Nekisia Davis flew her mom up to her apartment to dogsit, New York reports.
Davis says that while she and two of her friends were on a trip to Florida, her mom was supposed to take care of her Pomeranian and move the group's three cars: A Fiat, a CRV, and a green Honda.
Her mom successfully moved three cars, but got the wrong green Honda—apparently the automaker's keys really do work on multiple cars. Now Davis has posted fliers and contacted police in an attempt to get it back to its rightful owner.
"I called the cops. They were like, 'I'm sorry, this sounds suspicious, and I don't really believe you,'" Davis told New York.
A detective has since promised to look into the case.
Anyway, if you're missing a green Accord in Red Hook, get in touch with Nekisia. It's going to get towed on Friday.
Update: The NYPD told New York the car was reported stolen Sunday. An officer has been sent to pick it up and return it to its rightful owner.
