Body of Missing Columbia Student Found in Hudson River
The NYPD has confirmed that the body of missing Columbia student Jiwon Lee was found Saturday in the Hudson River.
Lee, a 29-year-old student at the Columbia Dental School, was last seen April 1 at her Upper West Side apartment. Police reportedly found a suicide note in the apartment, and the New York Post reports her phone was last tracked to the George Washington Bridge, fueling speculation that she'd jumped. As of Sunday night, though, New York City's Medical Examiner still hadn't determined the cause of death.
"Unfortunately, Jiwon, beloved daughter, sister, and friend has gone on to a better place," Matt Lee, her brother, wrote on the GoFundMe page established to help find Jiwon. "Our family thanks you at this time for respecting our privacy."
Lee, who was set to graduate this May, was the president of the American Student Dental Association, and had also worked as an AmeriCorps volunteer and stand-up comedian.
