Law School Renamed for Antonin Scalia Briefly Abbreviated "ASS Law"

Last week, George Mason University announced that its law school would be renamed, at the request of an anonymous donor who gave $20 million to the program, after the late Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia: the Antonin Scalia School of Law at George Mason University—ASS Law. (Or ASSoL.)

There are plenty of reasons why ASS Law is actually a great name for a school named after Scalia. In his dissent on Lawrence v. Texas, a case that challenged a Texas law that literally made it a crime to have homosexual sex, Scalia wrote “Many Americans do not want persons who openly engage in homosexual conduct as partners in their business, as scoutmasters for their children, as teachers in their children’s schools, or as boarders in their home,”

“They view this as protecting themselves and their families from a lifestyle that they believe to be immoral and destructive.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, George Mason announced it was changing the name again, on Tuesday, to “the Antonin Scalia Law School”
