Looking for something to buy a teen this holiday season? Look no further than this very gift guide, a gift guide that is for teens and by teens.

We talked to four cool teens about the hottest items and slickest trends this year, and we guarantee that every one of these items is sure to turn that angsty teen frown upside down. Who’s the coolest aunt, etc., on the block this year? Oh—that’s right.

You are!

Enough “Yik Yak” from me. I’ll now turn it over to our expert panel of teens:

Mr. Lip Balm

Age: 15

Top hobby: Since I was little I loved kicking around a ball. I guess that’s always been my top hobby. In school now I might get more hobbies. I’m a little nervous. Mom says school will get less scary but for me now it seems big and there’s always a lot of commotion in the hall.

Favorite snack: There’s always a plate of some snack waiting for me at home. Anything tastes good, apples and peanut butter and other stuff. I’m always so happy to see the plate waiting for me on the island in the kitchen because I know it means I’m home from school.

Hardest thing about being a teen: There are a lot of big changes. I think it will get easier but it’s hard to always know that.

Favorite emoji: Caterpillar

Most embarrassing auto-correct NIGHTMARE: Most of them aren’t embarrassing I just say what I mean after I mess up.

Personal holiday gift wish: My personal holiday gift wish is this backpack because it is the best selling backpack on Amazon:

Holiday gift wish for a friend: I’d like to give this to a friend, I already have one and I like it:

Jessica

Age: 17

Top hobby: I’ve been playing violin since I was six, so I guess that’s the hobby I’m “best” at. Maybe that’s what you mean by “top” hobby. But my favorite hobby is running. I love running in the morning to wake up and at night to get tired, which is kinda funny lol. Run, run, run. Sometimes I run and forget that I’m even running and then I have to ask myself, “Wait—was I just running?” I always was.

Favorite emoji: Do I have to say it? THE RUNNER!!!!!!!!!! lol

Best thing about being a teen: There’s a lot of freedom, but also sometimes it feels like my parents are keeping me trapped in a prison even though I’m basically 18 which means I am entitled to many legal rights.

Favorite quote: “Fight war, not wars. Destroy power, not people.” -Crass

Favorite song to get you pumped-up for school: Oops! Should’ve saved Crass for this one. Hmm. I guess the Flux of Pink Indians song “Sick Butchers.” (I’ve been vegan for two years.)

Personal holiday gift wish: Rudimentary Peni’s Death Church on vinyl and a $100,000 wage ceiling in the United States.

Holiday gift wish for a friend: Either Naomi Klein’s No Logo or Noam Chomsky’s Profit Over People. People my age need to open their eyes. Older people too.

Shoe Body

Age: 16

Top hobby: Being a shoe, you know what to do, shoe-be-shoe-be-do. (Singing!!)

Favorite subject: Science, mostly because of my lab partner. I think she’s my sole mate heheheheh.

Best thing about being a teen: Taco bell!!!

Favorite quote: “I bought a company in the mid-’90s called Dexter Shoe and paid $400 million for it. And it went to zero. And I gave about $400 million worth of Berkshire stock, which is probably now worth $400 billion. But I’ve made lots of dumb decisions. That’s part of the game.” -Warren Buffet

Favorite song to get you pumped-up for school: You probably think my favorite song is Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks” because I’m a shoe and you said “pumped up” trying to goad me into saying that song. But I think that song is weird. My safety at school is important!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I like to listen to Dead Kennedy’s “Soup Is Good Food.” I love that little riff, ber-ber-ber-ber-do-do-do, and I love to sing along!!!!

Personal holiday gift wish: TACO BELL NIGHT PARTY PACK - MAKES 22 TACOS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holiday gift wish for a friend: TACO BELL NIGHT PARTY PACK - MAKES 22 TACOS. GIVE IT TO ME IF YOU DON’T WANT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mug

Age: 17

Top hobby: Photography. I think I’m actually pretty good, too. Some people will just take a black and white picture—like, I’m not saying this is bad but Becky does this a lot?, and, I don’t know. Just because it’s black and white doesn’t mean it’s good. Especially now that you can put a filter on anything with Instagram. There has to be more thought put into it. That’s what I think anyway, and, again, Becky was just the first example to come to mind, nothing against her personally.

Favorite emoji: I like to use the chick hatching out of the egg just to be like, hellooo!

Favorite snack: Any snack that can fit in my mug body, like popcorn.

Hardest thing about being a teen: I feel like I’ll fit in more at college.

Favorite quote: ‪“Feminism has never been about getting a job for one woman. It’s about making life more fair for women everywhere. It’s not about a piece of the existing pie; there are too many of us for that. It’s about baking a new pie.”‬ -Gloria Steinem. (And NOT just because of the pie part, haha.)

Personal holiday gift wish: Of course, the best selling item in Amazon’s Camera & Photo section:

Holiday gift wish for a friend:

That one is for Becky.
