Multiple Dead After Man Goes on Shooting and Carjacking Spree Across Orange County
At least four people are dead after a man reportedly went on a 25-minute shooting spree this morning in and around the Southern California cities of Tustin and Villa Park.
The suspected shooter is believed to be among the dead.
According to Lt. Paul Garaven of the Tustin Police Department, the first shooting occurred this morning in Ladera Ranch, where police found one female dead inside a residence on Red Leaf Lane.
Fleeing the scene in an SUV, the suspect, described as a man in his 20s, drove toward Tustin, where he proceeded to steal a car near Red Hill Avenue.
A bystander who was in the area was shot and sustained a non-life-threatening injury.
Another carjacking was reported moments later near the 55 freeway, where the suspect allegedly shot and killed the driver.
The suspect managed to carjack another vehicle and shoot two more people, one of whom was pronounced dead at the scene, before officers finally caught up with him on the 55.
Lt. Garaven says the suspect "shot and killed himself" before officers could make contact.
The motive for the initial shooting remains unclear at this time.
