Watch One World Trade Center Rise from the Ashes in Earth Cam's 9/11 Commemorative Time-Lapse
Though construction officially began in early 2006, it wasn't until a few years later that One World Trade Center — formerly the Freedom Tower — began to take its rightful place in New York City's iconic skyline.
Using footage captured between February 2010 and September of this year, EarthCam has compiled a commemorative time-lapse video of 1 WTC's ascent in honor of 9/11's 11th anniversary.
Currently the tallest building in New York, 1 WTC will be the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere (and third tallest in the world) upon its completion late next year.
