This is officially the gayest convention ever: the Democratic National Convention has a record number of LGBT delegates.

There are a total of 486, which is more than 8 percent of the total.

Jerame Davis of the National Stonewall Democrats acknowledged that eight percent might seem like a lot — but not when you consider the importance of gay people to the Democratic party, and the current party focus on gay rights.

We've been an underrepresented demographic in politics for a long time. Finally seeing us appropriately represented is just a thrill.

"Don't ask, don't tell" was repealed last year, and in May, Obama endorsed marriage equality. Earlier this summer, Democrats decided to include support for same-sex marriage in the official party platform.

Weirdly enough, all the gay at the DNC has not yet caused a hurricane.
