Boston Mayor to Chick-fil-A President: We Are Proud to Have Led the Way on Equal Marriage Rights
In a letter addressed to Chick-fil-A's president and COO Dan Cathy, Boston mayor Thomas Menino made it abundantly clear that Cathy's opposition to marriage equality has rendered his company persona non grata in the Hub.
"You called supporters of gay marriage 'prideful,'" Menino writes. "Here in Boston, to borrow your own words, we are 'guilty as charged.' We are indeed full of pride for our support of same sex marriage and our work to expand freedom to all people. We are proud that our state and our city have led the way for the county on equal marriage rights."
Menino went on to call the proposed establishment of a Chick-fil-A restaurant across the street from City Hall "an insult to [same-sex couples] and to our city's long history of expanding freedom."
