Blindfolded Acrobat Attempts to Walk Backwards on High Wire Without Safety Harness, Fails
Aisikaier, a sixth-generation tightrope walker, is lucky to be alive after taking a nasty 130-foot tumble during a stunt performed yesterday over a ravine in central China.
The "Dawa Zi" acrobat attempted to set a new world record by walking backwards across a 2,300-foot tightrope while wearing a blindfold. To add an element of death defying to his life-threatening act, Aisikaier eschewed safety equipment of any kind.
The decision proved to be a poor one as, after 50 minutes of walking and only 130 feet from the edge, Aisikaier lost his balance due to high winds and dizziness and fell to the ground.
Luckily, he managed to land on a patch of shrubs which cushioned his fall and allowed him to emerge relatively unscathed.
Asikaier is already a world record holder, having been recognized by Guinness World Records for his speedy crossing of a 100 meters wire in just 44.63 seconds.
