Today Vanity Fair published an excerpt from Washington Post editor David Maraniss' new Barack Obama biography. The selection focuses on Obama's first serious girlfriend, 25-year-old Genevieve Cook, whom he dated when he was 22 and living in New York.

Using Barack's love letters and Genevieve's alarmingly well-written diary, Maraniss constructs what shall henceforth be known as The 4-Step Barack Obama Seduction Technique.

Step 1: Beanbag Chair Opener

Hours later, after midnight, she was about to leave when Barack Obama approached and asked her to wait. They plopped down on an orange beanbag chair at the end of the hall, and this time the conversation clicked.

Step 2: Home-Cooked Dinner Seduction

Genevieve describes her first date with Barack: "I'm pretty sure we had dinner maybe the Wednesday after. I think maybe he cooked me dinner. Then we went and talked in his bedroom…"

Step 3: FUCK

"…And then I spent the night. It all felt very inevitable."

Step 4: Keep Her Wanting More, With Your Hot Bod and Sexy Stink

She remembered how on Sundays Obama would lounge around, drinking coffee and solving the New York Times crossword puzzle, bare-chested, wearing a blue and white sarong.

"I open the door, that Barack keeps closed, to his room, and enter into a warm, private space pervaded by a mixture of smells that so strongly speak of his presence, his liveliness, his habits—running sweat, Brut spray deodorant, smoking, eating raisins, sleeping, breathing."
